The best way to build the Death Star is to construct one out of an asteroid, according to a NASA engineer who believes that Star Wars‘ Galactic Empire did things the hard way by shooting materials from a planet and building it in space.

Brian Muirhead, who is currently working on NASA’s Asteroid Redirect Mission, which will land on an asteroid and return a sample of it to the Moon, believes that an already-existing asteroid is the best way to build the fictional weapon. “It could provide the metals,” he says. “You have organic compounds, you have the water – all the building blocks you would need to build your family Death Star.”
