Apogee of Fear: The worst (and first) sci-fi film that will ever be shot in space

These astro-actors should probably stick to their (admittedly awesome) day jobs…

In October 2008, video game developer and entrepreneur Richard Garriott paid for a trip to the International Space Station as a space tourist.

During his 10-day stay aboard the orbiting outpost, he arranged for the other astronauts to appear in a film he wanted to make. The bizarre movie, called ‘Apogee of Fear’, stars cosmonaut Yuri Lonchakov and astronauts Michael Fincke and Greg Chamitoff, as well as Richard Garriot himself.

We would try and explain more about the film but, well, you’d do better just watching it yourself above. NASA had prevented Garriott from publishing the film for a long time, but as a version has now appeared on YouTube we guess they must have relented.

So kick back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the first science fiction movie ever shot in space.
